Christmas at Tangerine
Valentina R on Dec 27, 2024
Viva Tangerine has always been a blast for me and my family. Beginning with the location it’s greatly placed in a beautiful beach with plenty of yummy restaurants and amazing views along super entertaining kite surfers. The food is also pretty good with restaurant options as well, with the Christmas food being good especially (giant paella and delicious fish). Those working around including: Eduardo, Jairo, Ronald, Mariano, Francisco, Elizabeth, and Albert, confidently made our days better with their smiles and hospitality. Ultimately, the best part of this resort and the reason my family and I have so much fun all goes to the animation team. They work so hard to keep the energy up and make sure everyone has a good time. We have truly made lifelong friends - living up to the “amigos para siempre” motto they go by. In particular: Coyote, Smilla, Lava girl, Sombra, Piryy, Coco, Winnie, Junior, Chalaca, Pikachu, Benger, Moisés, and Capuchino have never failed to make us laugh with their love and contagious energy.
Third time here

Lava Girl - Smila - the best Nutella- Coco- Chalaka - La sombra -Yunior - Winnie and DJ Brillo, all pour their hearts and smiles out to connect. The whole day, from 9am to Midnight they are around, making you laugh, and making sure you’re having the best time. The resort wouldn’t be the same without them because their caring personalities and fun attitudes are what makes the atmosphere more enjoyable. Remarkable team! The staff at the buffet Eduardo, Ronald, Jairo, and Mariano were lovely with their happy smiles and excellent service. Food is very good, I have celiac desease with lactose intolerance, and fortunately found options to eat. Even if food is not labeled as gluten or dairy free, the staff is always available to give advice. My suggestion would be to visibly mark gluten and dairy free food options. Amazing location in front of kilometres of warm Caribbean beach, perfect for long walks to enjoy the sunset and sunrise along with the view of incredible tricks of kiteboarders. Windy sometimes but walking along the shore to the East we found a quiet beach lagoon. There is always security staff in the beach if you want to leave you towels and stuff while walking. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Air conditioning was works great. Our third stay at viva Wyndham Tangerine and we can’t wait to come back to Cabarete. Impossible to get bored with the excellent entertainment team for all ages. The hotel has everything you want for a fun and relaxing holiday, but the staff’s way of genuinely go above and beyond and excellent service.
Avoid at all costs

Avoid this hotel like the plague. This is by far the worst all-inclusive hotel we’ve stayed at, and we’ve seen plenty. 1. We traveled from Canada to enjoy some warm weather, but not a single day was sunny. It rained heavily almost every day, and when it didn’t rain, it was constantly windy and overcast. Before booking this hotel, we read several reviews, and many complained about the persistent wind and large waves. We ignored those warnings, which we deeply regret. A red flag was raised the entire time we were there, and the lifeguard kept whistling, preventing us from swimming freely. Admittedly, the weather is beyond the hotel’s control, but the service, facilities, and food were absolutely subpar. Hotel Issues: 1. Beach towels were unavailable. Out of 7 days, we managed to get them only 3 times. The rest of the time, we were told to come back in 20 minutes, only to be told again that they hadn’t arrived yet and to return in another 20 minutes. We’ve never encountered this, even in Cuba. 2. The building leaks like a sieve. Due to the heavy rains, water was everywhere—both in public areas and in our room. Staff didn’t bother wiping the wet floors in common areas, endangering guests who could easily slip. As for our room, waking up in the middle of the night to rainwater dripping on your face isn’t pleasant. This wasn’t just our room; our friends’ room had the same issue. 3. Injuries in the pool. During a foam party, my wife injured her foot on either glass or a sharp object at the bottom of the pool. To this day, we don’t know what it was, but walking on the pool floor was hazardous. When we went to the medical center to treat the wound, the “doctor” first insisted we fill out paperwork for our insurance without even asking what happened. No compassion—just a desire for money. We wouldn’t have minded paying if the injury was due to our negligence, but stepping on glass in the resort’s pool is the hotel’s responsibility. To make matters worse, they didn’t even clean the wound with alcohol or apply bandages. When we pointed this out, the doctor said the pool wasn’t his responsibility and advised us to complain to guest services. Thankfully, the wound wasn’t deep, and we had alcohol with us to treat it ourselves. 4. Staff in the buffet were disengaged. It often took multiple attempts to get their attention, and it wasn’t clear whether they were ignoring us or just didn’t hear. You’d ask for one thing but receive something else. Half the time, it was easier to get up and serve yourself. 5. “Concierge” service was a scam. During check-in, we were assigned a concierge who was overly cheerful and friendly. Her main goal turned out to be convincing us to attend a “VIP” breakfast, which she claimed would take an hour and feature better, à la carte food. It was a trap—don’t fall for it. The real purpose of this breakfast was to sell memberships to their Viva Club. The whole process was shady, and the staff avoided direct answers, dragging out the ordeal. What was supposed to take one hour turned into two painful hours. Out of curiosity, we asked how much the membership cost just to end the conversation. They quoted CAD $38,100 for both families for 10 years, payable in installments. Ridiculous. When we declined, the concierge stopped greeting us altogether. 6. No hot water for three days in our room and our friends’ room. 7. Dangerous waves. Initially, I enjoyed the strong waves until I choked on water a couple of times and ended up with sinusitis. 8. Limited food variety. The buffet’s selection wasn’t extensive, but there was always something edible. The food was slightly better than in Cuba. We tried one à la carte restaurant—it aimed for originality but was essentially the same food as the buffet. 9. Jacuzzi was cold. On cold, windy days (which were frequent), we wanted to warm up in the jacuzzi, but the water was as cold as the main pool. 10. Food poisoning on the last day. Our entire group got sick, spending the next day with stomach aches. We suspect the Christmas leftovers spoiled due to improper storage in the warm, humid climate. Regardless, the staff served the same food again, and we paid the price. Final Thoughts: Cabarete is better suited for kite surfers or those wanting to try it. If your goal is to relax on a quiet beach and swim in the ocean, this place is useless. Go to Punta Cana instead.
Overall it was average to good
Patricia L on Dec 26, 2024
For the most part it was good. The staff at the front were warm and welcoming. The food was average but we always found something that was good to eat. I would suggest making the food at the snack bar served to order rather than letting the food sit there. We did have one big problem with a bartender due to cultural racism. The male bartender was named Francisco. He was extremely rude to my husband because he thought he was dominican and my husband is not. He is a Cuban that lives in Canada, however that should not matter. Francisco would not serve him and when he did he was so disrespectful and rude to him. I finally had to tell him to stop or I would report him to management. I would recommend giving him and other employees a course cultural racism. It was a black mark on our trip and your resort and dominican people. The breakfast staff and other resort staff were wonderfully accommodating and so kind. ??
