Booking restaurants is tough...

slavantk on Apr 17, 2025

Arrived today, 3rd time here. Great resort, if you don't care where and what time you eat. Booking restaurants is a very frustrated process, thus gave it 4 instead of 5. Getting restaurant you want and at ...the time you'd like to eat dinner is almost impossible. Even the fact that we are here for my wife's 50th birthday didn't help. We book Palace out of 5 resorts here, so we get access to all the amenities in all the resorts here, including restaurants but it's almost not worth spending extra money since you can't book those restaurants anyway. As I've mentioned above, we're here for the 3rd time, and other than that, everything is great here, family friendly, beautiful beach, plenty of pools and entertainment but reserving restaurants leave a bit of a bad taste in the mouth...

4th Stay At Barcelo Maya

david w on Apr 17, 2025

This was our 4th stay at Barcelo Maya. We have previously stayed in the Tropical section, both standard and premium, and our first trip we were upgraded from standard Colonial to Riviera (Adults Only sect...ion). This trip was Palace pool view premium. The resort is huge and beautiful. We were there 2nd week of December and it was decorated for the upcoming holidays. Premium put us closer to the pools (ours was ground floor and the pool was 30' away) and the ocean for snorkeling. It also gives you room service included, unlimited a la carte dinners (based on availability, we got all the reservations we wanted at times that worked for us) and an hour daily at the hydrotherapy in the Spa. We did find the buffet food at Palace a little better than the other buffets. We have eaten at all of them at some point, but that being said, we wouldn't go hungry with the selection of food offered at the buffets and beach grills. The nightly entertainment is fun the first or second time, but the shows are the same after 3 years of going, so not so much anymore. Jaguars (disco) is great on Friday night and probably Saturday nights, but found the music not so great on the other nights. Pre programmed Sun-Thurs and live DJ Fri/Sat. No problem with our room. A/C worked fine, lots of hot water, bed was comfy for sleeping. Snorkeling is amazing at the Palace end and at the pier. Assuming we go back for a 5th time, we'll probably do Tropical Premium again instead of Palace. Didn't really find it worth the extra. And all the Tropical Premium rooms have an ocean view of some kind. Great for sipping coffee first thing the am with room service breakfast listening to the birds. Can't wait to go back, now that I'm thinking about it. (picture is just that. View from Tropical Premium @ breakfast.

Wonderful family holiday

LJS85 (London) on Apr 17, 2025

To summarise - we had an incredible holiday in a fantastic hotel. We stayed at Barcelo Maya Palace between 7th - 16th April as a family of 5 from the UK, with children aged 10, 8 and 5. I cannot unders...tand some of these recent poor reviews, as we simply had the best time. Check in was smooth and quick. Our room was lovely, very spacious. It was quite a walk away, however the walk was beautiful with so many fountains and statues to walk past. The food was great. We ate at 4 restaurants - French, Rodizo, Steakhouse and Tokyo, and we enjoyed all thoroughly. The buffet food was also really good - no complaints from us. There was always a mexican/taco station, plus usual burger station, pizza and pasta etc. The fresh fish was amazing - fresh oysters, huge prawns, ceviche - all incredible. Some of the best buffet food we've ever had at an all inclusive. We were there for 9 days and weren't bored of it at all. The beach is a little bit rocky, but plenty of sand and very easy to avoid the rocks. We didn't need our water shoes at all. The water was so beautiful. We snorkelled with the turtles most days and saw plenty of fish and even a few stingray! The view of the ocean was picture perfect. It was almost impossible to get a sunbed, however we were content with lying on our towels on the sand or under a palm tree. The pool is absolutely massive which the kids loved. There is often quite loud music, but we soon discovered that if you positioned yourself near the fountains then you couldn't hear the music. The pool is so big so you can pick a quieter spot away from the music, or head to the beach. The children's water park was fantastic - enjoyed by all ages. The grounds were absolutely immaculate - so clean and well kept. There were lots of staff, working very hard and everything was spotless. The resort was busy when we were there, but it is so big and spacious that it never felt crowded (apart from when trying to get a sunbed!). We mainly stayed at the Palace, but we did enjoy walking around some of the other hotels in the first few days, but realised that the food offering at the Palace was nicer. Strikers bar in the Mall was good for watching sport and escaping the sun. We played mini golf, paddle tennis and went on a catamaran ride - all part of the all inclusive program. We truly had a wonderful holiday and even after 9 days we were so sad to leave. Hopefully we will be able to come back one day!
