Nice Resort - Needs Some Updates

Cyndi L (Bradenton, Florida) on May 24, 2025

We just returned from HR RM and overall we had a very nice/fun vacation. We had been to this resort once before in 2012 so we knew that there is no beach. We were a family/group of 6 adults / 3 rooms on th...e adult side (bldg 1). The good.....We all enjoyed the adult pool and lagoon area. It was easy to get chairs, and the servers, attendants, and bartenders were all friendly and helpful. Great music at our pool. No loud parties. We also liked the 3 restaurants: Faro, Umo, and Thai. Zen was another favorite. The food was great, and our chef was a lot of fun. We attended the Awaken Your Senses, which we also all enjoyed. The food and drinks were very good, and the presentation was excellent. The Paella at the pool was delish, and the margarita class was very fun! The resort is very walkable, and we always felt safe. The grounds are mostly nicely maintained. The kids' areas look nice. We only participated in the water slides. We mainly spent our time relaxing by the water and we did a few off-site excursions, which were all good! The not so good......The rooms are very dated and somewhat small. We paid extra for a sky terrace - I don't recommend it. When I booked the 3 rooms, the guy on the phone assured me of a partial ocean view and the best view at the resort. It was anything but - see photos. Our entire room felt old, run-down, and dark. The 2nd day, after a long wait in the chairs and an even longer stand at the check-in counter, we finally got a new room, even though we were inconvenienced to pack up and move. Plus we had no room for several hours. They were supposed to text me when the new room was ready, but never did. I would not recommend paying extra for the sky terrace. Once you look over the rail at the view, and then sit on the chairs, your only view is the sky and the solid half wall blocking the real view. Not worth the few hundred dollars extra. We never used the tub. The water pressure in the room was excellent, but the tub only trickled water in. Our daughter used her in-room tub, and said that it took 1 hour to partially fill it. The elevators in building 1 did not work, which was okay for us. We are fine with stairs, but just in case others are not. Also when I booked, the resort was described as having an adults only side and a family side, which is how we remembered it. Once we arrived, we were told upon check-in (which was very slow - about 90 minutes) that they are doing away with the adults only 'side'. Now the lobbies are referred to as Red and Blue. We were on the blue side. Kids were allowed everywhere except between buildings 1 and 2. Some restaurants are closed on certain days - just plan ahead. Our pool bar closed around 4:30 - 4:45. Not sure about others. They set it up around 8am but no one was in the pool except me - swimming - not drinking. Food service was only offered at the pool between noon and 3pm - just 3 hours! The lobby areas are loud - almost all the time. It's hard to talk to Vacation Planners, Concierge, front desk, cafe staff, each other. We went to the Queen show the first night, and the sound quality was terrible. We could barely understand the announcer - maybe 20% of what she said. It took a bit to figure out what song Queen was playing, and I'm a fan! We didn't go back for other shows. We (my husband and I - kids said No Way!) stood at the back for a couple of Rock and Roll songs a few nights later. We also attended Elvis in the lobby, but again poor quality. Not expected from Hard Rock! We wanted to sit and have drinks with our family after dinner, but couldn't find where to relax. All the outdoor bars were closed. We went to the main bar one night, which was so loud, and waited well over an hour to play pool. We went back a few nights later and the bar was overrun with high school grads and was so loud and chaotic that we left. Our group is 20's, 30's, and 50's so we're not a bunch of elders:) Each room had 1400 resort credits issued, but the prices for salon and spa were so inflated that no one used the credits, plus we had a 35% tax attached. We were not allowed to use them for excursions, as we had always done in the past. We did not see that as a good deal. Mid May was high seaweed season. There were crews out every morning clearing the lagoons, but they could not keep up. The beginning of the week was slightly lighter, but it continued to get heavier. For us, with just a few changes and some updates, this resort could be 5 star again.
