Making Memories in May
kevintammy (Moon Township, Pennsylvania) on May 31, 2025
This was our 3rd visit to OMR from May 13-21, 2025. We loved our stay here once again! The staff here are absolutely amazing and they remember us from previous visits. Kenddell from the Entertainment Team ...is so full of contagious energy! Shout out also to Chicky Baby, always has a smile on his face! The Ice Breathwork experience with Moises was refreshing. Viri, Dali, Susie, Victor, and Oswyn are all great at keeping the guests entertained around the pool. Alfredo at the breakfast buffet always has a smile on his face and is very attentive. Miguel and Eber at the swim-up bar make some of the best drinks around. The resort grounds were well maintained. The rooms were clean and spacious. We never had any trouble getting into the restaurants to eat, and we were non-privileged. The food was very good at each restaurant we ate at and the buffet had plenty of options. We never went hungry. It was very nice that the grill area outside El Charro was open in the afternoon for pizzas. They were delicious and served as a quick lunch. Marcelo at the Sports Bar was very friendly and nice. Love all the options for late night food cravings. Don't forget to tip! The staff all work hard to make your stay here rememberable. Thank you OMR for an amazing vacation! Already have our 4th trip booked here for later this year!
Poor air conditioning in the public areas

We arrived last night and were unpleasantly surprised by a lack of air conditioning in the main lobby. Same issue in the buffet area, unless you are “a privilege member “ No problem with the comfort level t...here. Service is kind of “hit and miss “ No one at the reception had offered to take us to the room last night and help with our luggage.

Mainly amazing, with a few slight issues

We stayed at ocean maya royale from 20th-27th of May and for the most part it was a very pleasant and relaxing stay, I would stay here again but there’s just a couple of things that I would change to make ...the experience better. Pros: * Pool area was very nice and always clean, having the choice of sitting round the pool or on the beach area is also a nice touch, primarily you do have to go to the bar and get your own drinks if you’re in either location but there is a waiter who comes round and takes your order approximately every hour if you’re in the beach area * Lots of drink/cocktail selections, there wasn’t one I didn’t like * The restaraunts, especially the sit down service restaraunts are all great, definitely try the Japanese hibachi place out at least once. * The rooms are great, very clean and spacious and AC unit is amazing, especially after a long day in the sun. If your room has 2 doubles instead of a queen, I would recommend not asking to swap and just pushing the beds together. Me and my partner did this and it was named the ‘mega bed’ and honestly it may be the next update we make to our house. * The staff are very friendly and polite * The breakfast and lunch options are very good. Now for the cons, there isn’t many but I do believe they should be addressed. * The buffet food is what I’d call bang average. I don’t think of myself as a fussy eater. I like a lot of things but on one of the nights I found myself eating plain pasta, chicken and gravy as there wasn’t anything that I fancied, this was also on the ‘Caribbean’ night which I was looking forward to as I was expecting some jerk chicken, beef patties, curried goat etc (you know the foods) but there genuinely wasn’t a single thing on I would associate with Caribbean food other than plantain. The meat selection they had was regular chicken or pork, which was a bit disappointing. We ended up ordering room service instead as we were still hungry. That being said, we ate in the buffet 4/7 nights and there was enough food that we both enjoyed, and on the most part everything was tasty, don’t let this put you off going. * Staying on the subject of the buffet, I strongly believe the labelling of the food could be massively improved. I managed to figure out roughly what was what but the labels most of the time didn’t match up with the food. Sometimes there was a label saying something was there and it was something completely different, not really a big problem as like I say you can figure out what stuff is but for people who aren’t as confident with their food it is probably quite confusing and overwhelming. * And now for the main thing that got under my skin. The excursion organisers in the hotel. I don’t know how much the hotel has to do with the people who plan the excursions but if not then they should probably start paying more attention. When you get to Ocean maya and want to book a trip, 9 times out of 10 you will be offered a free ‘shopping tour’ and bus into Playa del carmen or Cancun. My advice, DO NOT go on it. Pay the money and get a taxi instead. The catch of the ‘free’ part is that you get taken to an ‘Authentic Mexican jewellery and Tequila store’ as this company, Matises & Co (just search these on trip advisor and see for yourself what people have to say) pay for the bus for you. These two stores are a massive scam, and you basically are forced to walk around these two stores (nearly 2 hours in total) and get pressured into buying stuff, you get separated from the rest of your group so you can’t talk to anyone other than the person you came with, and if you are reluctant to buy anything they will rather aggressively just ask you to leave. The jewellery is cheap, poor quality and they charge hundreds of dollars for it and it will fall apart after a couple of hours. The tequila is a bit better as it’s still alcoholic but it is massively over priced. The reason this knocks a star off the hotel is because they are allowing their guests to get scammed by operators in this hotel. I don’t know if they potentially get a cut of any sales these stores make. But after the day out we had I was very disappointed the hotel would allow these trips to go ahead knowing what their guests are going to be coerced into buying. All in all, we had a very enjoyable week away, I return home feeling nice and relaxed, and also have a rather painful sunburn to show for it, It’s just a shame about a couple of things that if sorted out would make this place absolutely amazing.
