Poor Customer Service
Susan K on May 08, 2025
Stay away from this place!!! We booked our trip through Expedia and paid it in full prior to the trip. We gave our credit card on arrival as one does when you check in. After we departed, they charged our ...credit card for the entire stay ($6k). When we found the charge on our card, we reached out to Expedia and Sonesta. After 10 days of back and forth, we had a partial refund. We then had to reach out again and they gave us more of our money back but we are still not fully reimbursed. Apparently, while the credit card charge was sonesta or Expedia’s mistake we will not be reimbursed for the exchange rate differences or bank charges. How is this proper customer service??? If you stay here, be very careful as they may just put charges through on your card that you don’t expect and you will not be fully refunded!!!!
I made this last minute reservation through Delta Vacation and had a fantastic time. This was my 1st time to St. Maarten

I made this last minute reservation through Delta Vacation The hotel is in a great location. I had a great room on the 7th floor (748). I could see the planes coming in and landing. It was really nice dur...ing sunset. The hotel was damaged during the hurricane in 2017. It was gutted and completely rebuilt. The shame is that after only a few years the hotel is already run down. The hotel does not seem to be well maintained at all. Right next to the elevator on the 7th floor was a gummy bear. It was obvious to me that the floor was not being cleaned as the gummy bear was there the entire time of my stay. My room had a few problems. Being in the business, I do not understand why they are neglecting this resort. It's not cheap to stay here. I expected more. I did not have my room cleaned during my stay. The housekeeper was great and gave me all the towels I needed. My mini bar was refilled upon request. I used the spa once and enjoyed the sauna. The pool was nice. The pool bar service was good. It's a shame that the hotel doesn't enforce the rule about reserving chairs. A lot of people leave towels on the chairs and then leave. The beach area is nice and you can walk to Maho Beach. You can watch the planes land which is really cool. Hotel is not well maintained and dirty in some areas. No bathrobe or slippers. No laundry service. No room service. Food is mediocre and Service is slow Most of the staff is unfriendly and it seems they hate their jobs. Mahendra is the best and provides great service. Very friendly and always smiling. The Village Tavern is the best. Other than that no other employee really stood out. --- Restaurant Reviews Palms Grill: Great location overlooking the ocean and watching the planes come in. The food was okay. Nothing special. The service was good. --- Cantina Paradiso: This Mexican restaurant is only open at night. It shares a space with the Palms Grill, which serves lunch. The food is okay. The steak I had was very thin and therefore not medium rare. The service was good. I was able to sit close to the ocean, which was nice. Otherwise it was nothing special. --- Latitude Bar: Fun place to hang out at night. The drinks are great. Last night they had karaoke and it was so much fun. --- La Fontana: This is an Italian restaurant with a beautiful view of the ocean. I ate here twice. I must say I was disappointed with the food and service. The appetizer and soup were good. I had the beef carpaccio and the cream of kale soup both nights. These two dishes where really good. The 1st night I had the Chef's Special the Tuna Steak. I was not impressed with it at all. The tuna seems to be of low quality. Last night I tried the Milano Spaghetti with Meatballs. The pasta was cold and the meatballs did not taste good at all. I must say that the Chef Boyardee Spaghetti and Meatballs is much better. Both nights Laurie was my server. Both nights the service was slow and it seemed to me that she did not enjoy her job at all. I left a $10 tip the first night and no tip the second night. Really disappointed in the restaurant experience. They should also offer a coffee or something with the dessert. --- The Village Tavern: This is a great restaurant and bar. Lots of fun at night. They have live music and also karaoke. The food is pretty good. The bartender Mehendra is awesome and makes great gin tonics. Ask him for the special secret drink. If you are staying at the Sonesta Resort, you must check this place out. --- Jing's Kitchen: This Restaurant is part of the Sonesta Resort. I had the Tuna Nigiri, Chicken Satay and Banana Tempura. The Food was a let down. The Nigiri was okay. The Chicken Satay was okay. The Peanut Sauce was terrible. The Desert was the best part of the Meal --- Overall you can not beat the location. Restaurants, Bars and shops right outside the Hotel. Next time I am coming here I will stay at the Point. It looked really nice when I walked the Lobby and from what I can see online. Fun place to visit and there is a lot to do on the Island I had a great time Thank You
Perfect Family Getaway – Again and Again

Just returned from our third consecutive year at Sonesta Maho with the family, and it never disappoints. Our kids, ages 7 and 8, had a blast—huge thanks to the amazing staff at the Kids Club who kept them ...entertained with fun and engaging activities every day. The rooms were consistently clean, the food was excellent as always, and every staff member we encountered was warm, friendly, and incredibly helpful. Still one of our favorite places to stay! Highly recommend
Deeply Disappointed – This Resort Is Not What It Claims to Be

I rarely write reviews, but my experience at Sonesta Maho Beach Resort in Sint Maarten warrants it. I had high hopes for this trip—beautiful location, well-known brand—but unfortunately, the resort failed ...on several critical fronts, and I want other travelers to be aware. Guest Relations: Ineffective and Dismissive From the moment I tried to raise concerns during my stay, I was met with polite but ultimately empty gestures. I spoke with Angela Monroy, the Guest Relations Manager. While courteous, she was unable or unwilling to offer real solutions or escalate issues effectively. No Access to Leadership Attempts to reach the General Manager or anyone in senior leadership were ignored. This lack of accountability made it clear that guest satisfaction is not a priority here. If something goes wrong during your stay, don’t expect meaningful support or follow-up. The Experience Doesn’t Match the Price For the premium cost of this resort, I expected at least professional responsiveness, if not a luxurious experience. Instead, I was left to chase basic service and resolve issues on my own. That is not what you sign up for when you choose a Sonesta property. This was a celebratory trip for me, and I left feeling disrespected and disappointed. Until this resort improves its internal communication and customer service culture, I can’t recommend it—especially to travelers who value accountability and peace of mind.

Fun place!! Watching the planes land and take off never gets old! Rooms are beautiful, food is amazing and drinks even more so! Entertainment is great. Pool is awesome, beach is small, but Mullett Bay Bea...ch, stunning, is only a 10 min walk away. No reservations for a la cartes and the food is exceptional! Shout outs to John, pool bbq, serves a fantastic burger. In the Buffet, JANE, Lorna and Darlinson. Mickel in the pool bar. Bernice in security is always on the job. Carrick at the Ocean Point Bar is the best. MickelAnne, Micki, in Entertainment and kids club was so friendly, helpful and loads of fun. Just love it!
