Package overage - watch out for extra charges
Esben R on Apr 13, 2025
We just had a great stay at the Fairmont which unfortunately ended with a bit of a disappointment. I had booked 3 nights in a “Fairmont Dbl / Dbl NS” for 2 Adults and two 2 Children including breakfast. ... When we arrive at the hotel to check in the woman at the desk also confirm that breakfast is included. The following morning we go to the restaurant and learn that we have to order from the menu so we ask the waiter how it works and he tells us that we have a food credit of 50 dollars per person. After checking out I received an invoice and learned that we had been charged with “Package Overage” each day. I immediately contacted the front office as this was clearly a mistake. The response I got was: “we noticed that the rate is inclusive of breakfast for up to 2 adults and hence there was an extra charge (overage) for the breakfast.” In the order confirmation it clearly states that I have booked for 2 adults and 2 children with the following rate: “Create Endless Memories - Includes Breakfast - Save from 10% off” In addition, the practical information states: Children Policy Depending on the hotel's policy regarding children, supplements for children apply and are included in the total amount of the reservation. See the tariff terms and conditions when booking Nowhere neither when booking, in the order confirmation or anywhere on the website (as of April 07, 2025) does it state that when you include breakfast it does not include children. In the end I was compensated for this clear mistake by your hotel, however with the comment: “Typically bed and breakfast reservations are for 2 adults unless otherwise specifically stating inclusion for children” I found this remark somewhat dismissive and frankly a bit rude, again - my booking clearly indicated that the reservation was for 2 adults and 2 children, and it was made under the rate “Create Endless Memories – Includes Breakfast.” Furthermore, the terms note that child supplements (if any) are included in the total reservation amount, which I understand to mean that all listed guests are accounted for in both the accommodation and included amenities—such as breakfast. The implication that I should have assumed otherwise contradicts the clarity I expected from the booking details and rate description. As a guest, I made this reservation in good faith, with the understanding that my family would be fully covered. I wrote an email to the General Manager about this and got the response "Kindly allow us some time to investigate and we will be back get back to you tomorrow afternoon." As of today that is a week ago but nobody actually got back to me.
Beautiful experience

My husband and I travelled to Toronto April 11, 2025 by train. We chose the Fairmont because it was close to Union Station, and we were so happy that we did. From the moment you walk up to their doors, y...ou are greeted by their curtious staff. We walked inside and were surprised to see their massive spring floral display. It was amazing. It's a beautiful hotel with amazing staff. We would definitely go there again. We are 100% satisfied customers!
Parts are five star, but not all

The lobby and staff are five star - absolutely lovely. The corporate rooms are somewhat worn, at least where I was. Almost everything was worn. Water pressure was terrible. However, it was comfortable over...all. Great location. Pool was crowded, spa was nice in spots.
Excellent Experience at the Fairmont Royal York

I was amazed at the service this hotel provided to me! From the moment I arrived until the moment I left I was treated amazingly by every staff member I encountered. I was travelling alone and I use a mobi...lity scooter for a spinal injury. As I pulled up (on my scooter and pulling my luggage) the doormen took my luggage for me and it was arriving to my room just as I did. I booked the lowest class room, as this hotel is expensive, and when I checked in I was upgraded to an accessibility suite! I could not believe the amount of room I had to move my scooter around and how the bathroom was made for people like me that have difficulty/or cannot stand and walk. The room was also clean and beautiful with comfortable beds and pillows. I had difficulty accessing the elevator at one point and a lovely bellman helped me and ensured that I got to the correct floor and into my room. The next day he helped me with my luggage as I was checking out. Every single member of the Fairmont Royal York team was outstanding and friendly. I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. I will book here in the future regardless of the price as I have never received this type of treatment with any hotel in Toronto before.
